It's in a permanent con...Hmmm...let's see. It's in a permanent conservation easement. It's "already a wildlife sanctuary" according to the folks most familiar with it and who have to most incentive to unload it. And there are other projects in NM competing for the same dollars that have gone without for some time.<br /><br />I can think of only two reasons why anyone would want to turn it into a state park or whatever:<br /><br />1. So the current owners can stop paying for it.<br /><br />2. To open it up to public access for recreational use.<br /><br />NM isn't really managing a lot of the public recreational resources they own now very well, always crying about not having the money to take care of things the way they need to be taken care of. Huge fights over small dollars for the San Juan come to mind!<br /><br />I'm pretty old school about this sort of thing: take of what you HAVE first.
